BACPS is seeking a dynamic, talented, and dedicated Special Education teacher who will address the needs of students with IEPs in an inclusive classroom setting through collaborative teaching with general education content area teachers. The Special Education teacher will work to differentiate instruction for students with special needs.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver specialized instruction in the classroom during academic periods designed to help students meet grade-level learning targets and achieve personal learning goals
- Modify assessments and classwork for students with special needs
- Assess student progress against IEP goals and use data to plan for instruction
- Communicate with families regarding service delivery and progress
- Develop IEPs for special education students
- Ensure the records for each identified student are up to date and well-organized and contain necessary progress notes and assessments
- Participate as part of the student intervention referral team
- Lead a weekly “check-in” time with the grade-level teaching team to review student progress
- Assist teachers in writing Present Levels of Performance for individual students with special needs
- Provide professional development on a variety of special education topics
- Participate in all professional development activities
- Participate in all staff meetings including school governance
- Facilitate and mediate a positive and restorative resolution of problems that might arise with students and/or parents
- Demonstrates awareness of school/community needs and initiates activities to meet those identified needs
- May perform other projects and duties as directed by the principal
Education/ Experience/ Skills
- Possess or be eligible to obtain valid MA Special Education Teaching licensure.
- At least two years of professional training and/or experience with special education students.
- Knowledge of the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and MA State Special Education laws and regulations.
- Ability to provide consultation and screening to determine eligibility for special education services.
- Knowledge of resources available to parents of special education students.
- Ability to provide in-service training, including curriculum resources to staff.
- Knowledge of IEP process
- Ability to monitor and evaluate pupil progress by observation and informal assessment.
- Experience and commitment to working collaboratively with staff, parents, and the community.
- Experience in the design and implementation of behavioral strategies and plans.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently to meet program objectives.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Bilingual English/ Spanish desired.
