Job Title: Director of Teaching and Learning

Description:    Baystate Academy Charter Public School (BACPS) is a college preparatory charter school in Springfield, MA providing rigorous academic standards and educational opportunities rooted in health sciences to students in grades 6 – 12. Through unique partnerships with Baystate Health and EL Education, BACPS will prepare students to enter the world of higher education and health careers with scientific knowledge, ethics, integrity, and compassion.

 

BACPS is seeking a dynamic, talented, and dedicated educational leader to provide instructional coaching and teacher development rooted in the implementation of EL core practices.  This position would also supervise our instructional coaches and coordinate our professional learning community.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Instructional block – design/monitoring
  • One to one action planning with teachers (data)
  • Provide leadership and modeling for teachers in instructional practice, including intervention and differentiation; backwards-designed unit and lesson planning processes; and data analysis cycles.
  • Lead data meetings
  • Create, vet, design – interim assessments & schedule – supports principal to weave in EL Care Practices
  • Develop a coaching cycle
  • Conduct weekly observations of each teacher’s classroom and provide informal constructive feedback to the teacher within 24 hours.
  • Visits 5 Classroom daily
  • Lead PLC focused around work plan
  • Lead expeditions, create instructional planning calendars/ create a feedback schedule
  • Understand turn-around instructional practices/ researched- based strategies
  • Develop instructional calendar for academics
  • Intervention block planning/ master schedule development
  • MCAS intervention block development, measure effectiveness, and develop instructional resources
  • Track studies & effectiveness of intervention
  • Monitor student transitions and monitor hallways
  • Interpreting, evaluating and analyzing student assessment and program evaluation results for the purpose of improving instruction and student achievement

Education/ Experience/ Skills

  • Master's degree in educational leadership, education, or related field
  • Minimum five years full-time classroom teaching experience in an urban setting
  • Proven track record of raising student achievement scores in an urban environment
  • Strong desire to work within an innovative, urban educational program
  • Excellent oral and written communication/interpersonal skills as well as a desire to collaborate with various stakeholders to help develop a whole-school community
  • Experience managing and developing teachers
  • Outstanding instructional skills, including the ability to motivate and challenge students  
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain a warm and orderly environment
  • A strong sense of personal accountability for student achievement
  • Unwavering conviction that all students can learn at a high level
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently to meet program objectives.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
